You Got Mine, by Stacey Lee

25.08.21

In a cinematic display of dramatic juxtaposition, Marle's latest collection You Got Mine is brought to life in our first film.

Directed by award-winning director, Stacey Lee, You Got Mine plays on the colour palettes and patterns of our spring collection, while paying tribute to nature’s architecture and the silhouettes, patterns and shapes found in the world around us.

As a brand, we design first and foremost for our Marle women and the way in which they wear our pieces are diverse, layered and individual. The natural fibres we use have a uniqueness that can’t be replicated", explains Marle Co-Founder and Creative Director, Juliet Souter.

The film's narrative begins immersed in a beautiful sand scape north of Te Arai Beach in Mangawhai, where the natural tones of the collection compliment the landscape and our model, Julia-Ruth, is bathed in the early rays of spring sunlight.

We were so fortunate to be granted access by Ngatiwai iwi to these iconic sand dunes - a location we literally had to get to via boat and then a long traipse with cameras, crew and clothing up and over a sand mountain. It was a trek, but well worth it to see the collection come to life within this incredible Salvador Dali-esque backdrop”, said Lee.

As the film continues, we are subtly and seamlessly immersed into a second interior world, an unexpected landscape of internal dunes, artfully curated throughout a light-filled warehouse space in Mount Maunganui.

You Got Mine is a collection made up of contrasts - textured knits meet delicate and feminine silhouettes, and exaggerated twists & details bring classic cuts into a new realm. Using two very different landscapes allowed us to show the duality of our brand and the fact that no one woman wears Marle the same way,” explains Souter.

As the film progresses, the actions and movements of the two worlds begin to overlap and interact culminating in the dramatic arc where real and surreal collide - day becomes night, white becomes black and the slow and considered cinematography is replaced by a kinetic and raw urgency in camera and action.

Like all Marle collections before, You Got Mine was designed to be timeless. Made from 100% natural fibres, the natural movement of the fabrics were explored, exaggerated and reimagined to make for an effortless and versatile spring wardrobe”, says Souter.

Finally, much like the cyclic patterns of nature herself, calm returns, the clouds part and the beauty of the late afternoon light bathes the scene as the spring sun sets.

You Got Mine is available online for pre-order from Friday 27th August.
